A Canadian hostage freed after five years of captivity in Afghanistan earlier this week says the Taliban-linked network that held him and his American wife killed the pair’s infant daughter and raped his wife. Joshua Boyle made the announcement upon returning to Canada on Friday night with his wife, Caitlan Coleman, and the couple’s three surviving children. In a statement read out to the press, he said both incidents occurred in 2014 and slammed his captors’ “stupidity and evil of authorizing the murder of my infant daughter.” He went on to say a guard had raped his wife with the help of his superiors and called on the Afghan government to bring the perpetrators to justice. “God has given me and my family unparalleled resilience and determination,” Boyle said. The couple was abducted by militants during a backpacking trip in 2012. Coleman was pregnant at the time and went on to have three other children in captivity. The pair was rescued by Pakistani forces on Wednesday with the help of U.S. intelligence information.
