Jimmy Kimmel promised a “BIG” surprise from his superhero guests Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans Tuesday night and the duo delivered, unveiling the first trailer for Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War during their joint late-night appearance.
The latest offering from the Marvel universe pits Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Evans’s Captain America against each other in a battle for the future of the nation. Under a new government regime instituting a superhero registration system, Captain America is cast as a “vigilante” while Iron Man is tasked with bringing him in line.
“Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth,” Iron Man tells Captain America at one point. Later, we hear Evans’s character reply, “Sorry, Tony, you know I wouldn’t do this if I had any other choice.”
And then, the two heroes come to blows in spectacular fashion.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the Marvel superhero team-up stars Evans, Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, and William Hurt. It will also feature the big-screen debuts of Chadwick Bosemans Black Panther and Tom Holland's revamped Spider-Man. The film is due in theaters on May 16, 2016.
