Carly Rae Jepsen’s Long Underwear Trick: Carly Rae Jepsen used a bit of wardrobe intuition for her on-air New Year’s Eve performance. At first it seemed that the “Call Me Maybe” singer, who was stationed in the near-freezing Times Square for an appearance on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, was simply dressed in a maxi skirt and crop top. But beating the bitter cold, she tweeted, “Had a blast performing in Times Square! Nobody knew I had long johns under my skirt…till now;)” [The Cut]
Kim Kardashian’s First Maternity Outfit: Did you really think that Kim Kardashian would suddenly dress in mumus for a entire nine-month pregnancy? Negative. The lead Kardashian debuted her very first maternity look on New Year’s Eve and true to form, it’s tight and sparkly. She posted a photo of the cleavage-baring ensemble on Tumblr along with a sweet little note. “It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky…” [Racked]
Israel’s Ban on Skinny Models: Israel has implemented a new law that bans models with a BMI of less than 18.5 from appearing in advertisements. It also requires publications to disclose if they’ve altered an image to make a model appear thinner than they are in real life. Similar regulations are already in place in Spain and Italy, where models are not allowed to appear in fashion shows if they weigh in below a specific BMI standard. Though the United States has no such legislative plans in the works, according to the CFDA’s CEO Steven Kolb, who to the Wall Street Journal, “We have never had an approach of mandate or enforce. We create awareness and education.” [WSJ]
New Power Couple Alert: There’s a new power couple in town. Model Lily Cole (who’s starred in ads for Rimmel, Tiffany’s, and more) is reportedly dating Twitter founder Jack Dorsey. The new pair was discovered after The Daily Mail published a paparazzi snap of Cole on the beach, with tech site The Kernel later identifying the model’s “mystery man” as Dorsey himself. Judging from pics, the couple seems to be quite cozy. [The Kernel]
