“My name is Caroline Kennedy. I live on the Upper East Side. I’ve lived at my current address for 25 years.” And with those simple statements Monday, Kennedy was selected for jury duty in New York City in a third-degree drug-possession case. She skipped past a question about whether she or any member of her family had been a victim of a crime. When asked if she had any connections to law enforcement, she answered simply, “My brother, years ago, worked as an assistant district attorney.” Asked if she had knew anyone with a drug problem, she answered with another understatement: “I know ... a few people.” For anyone who thinks it’s simple to get out of jury duty, guess again: Kennedy was chosen, despite her family history—and that she even campaigned for District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. in 2009.
