On the 23rd day of Casey Anthony's interminable murder trial, Judge Belvin Perry lost his nerve as prosecutor Jeff Ashton and defense lawyer Jose Baez argued for almost 10 minutes about issues not directly related to the case. On Friday, Perry had to dismiss the jury twice to meet privately with the attorneys from both sides. Perry argued that the lawyers have wasted time bickering about issues that should be addressed before court, but not in front of the jury, and warned that their "gamesmanship" could cause a mistrial. He instructed them to be ready to start every trial at 8:30 a.m., and to count on full Saturdays and shorter lunch breaks.
