A guard was killed after a gunman opened fire Thursday at the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The incident began with a domestic abduction in northeast Washington, D.C. Police said a man forced a woman into a car and they were seen arguing outside the Census office before the guard, Lawrence Buckner, approached the car and was shot several times. He later died at Prince George’s Hospital Center, said D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. The suspect then shot at a police cruiser before a chase began and ended outside a restaurant. The gunman again opened fire and police fired back to end the incident, Lanier said.
