Central African President Quits

Michel Djotodia, the interim president of the Central African Republic quit on Friday after leaders in other African nations blamed him for continuing sectarian violence. Djotodia was in power for nine months, during which time violence by the Muslim rebel movement he led was responsible for widespread looting, killing, and kidnapping, and subsequent violent reactions by Christian militia groups. According to estimates, over a thousand people were killed in December, and over a million have left their homes in the country.
