Sometimes celebrity jokes get called out. That’s what happened Thursday night on The Tonight Show, when Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith responded to Will Ferrell’s comments in Rolling Stone that Ferrell and Smith “could become the beginning of a rivalry that will go on until the end of time.” On Thursday night the two, dressed in matching leather jackets, Kiss T-shirts, and backwards Dodgers hats, competed in a “traditional drum-off.” And while Smith wiped the floor with Ferrell in the drum-off, the comedian stole the show when the rest of the Chili Peppers came on stage for their first late-night show performance since 2006. The band and Ferrell played Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper,” which Ferrell’s SNL “More Cowbell” skit made famous for younger audiences.
