A suspect in the murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen shot himself Wednesday evening when police arrived to search his apartment. It is not clear what role the police thought the man played in the recent killing, which has stunned Hollywood, but law enforcement officials did tell the Los Angeles Times that he was considered a suspect. Police had the man under surveillance. When officers approached him in the lobby of his apartment building Wednesday, he refused to answer questions, pulled out a pistol, and shot himself in the head. Residents at the building said the man—believed to be in his 40s—was known as Harold. The man told a neighbor that he was an ex-convict who had no plans of returning to jail. He said, "If it ever came back down to me going to prison, I would die first."
