With a committed effort by moderate senators to get the economic stimulus plan passed, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said today they may have the 60 votes needed to approve the measure. "We believe we do," Reid said. Senators are working to scale back the size of the stimulus by as much as $90 billion, or 25 percent. "We are still negotiating," Republican Sen. Susan Collins explained. "I think [Obama's economic team] will be up here this afternoon, but in many ways I think it's better for the senators to work out something we're happy with," she added. "I see the administration as providing technical advice and obviously setting the overall parameters of what the president wants."
