In the battle over the stimulus, Obama and McCain have dusted off their stump speeches. The president mocked his former rival's misgivings, saying to House Democrats on Thursday: "So then you get the argument, 'Well, this is not a stimulus bill, this is a spending bill.' What do you think a stimulus is? That's the whole point. No seriously. That's the point." A ruffled McCain stepped to the Senate floor on Friday morning to make his rebuttal: "The whole point, Mr. President, is to enact tax cuts and spending measures that truly stimulate the economy. There are billions and tens of billions of dollars in this bill which will have no effect within three, four, five or more years, or ever. Or ever." McCain also belittled Democrats' calls for compromise. "You can call it an agreement, but you cannot call it a bipartisan agreement," McCain said.
