It seems that Illinois Senator Roland Burris has quickly worn out his welcome: Former governor Rod Blagojevich’s choice to replace Barack Obama is now facing two investigations: one from the United States Senate Ethics Committee and one from a local Illinois prosecutor. The investigations are looking into whether Burris perjured himself after failing to disclose that he had been asked by Blagojevich’s brother to raise money for the ill-fated governor. The Chicago Tribune, meanwhile, is editorializing that Burris should step down: “His protests that he had nothing to hide just don’t square with his obvious attempts to hide something, as evidenced by the evolving truths in three sworn statements to the House impeachment panel. … The hole just gets deeper and deeper, and Burris keeps digging. He has no credibility. And many Democrats are losing theirs.”
