Rodarte’s Fall Collection Is a Space-Age Wonder

Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the self-taught Pasadena-based designers behind Rodarte, staged a Space Age-themed fall collection presentation on Tuesday at the Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea. First and foremost, the collection bore Rodarte's signature stamp of painstaking handcrafting. Tight minidresses fashioned from various delicate fabrics (from lace and extremely loose knits, to lame and leather) were worn atop thigh-high leather stiletto boots. Biker jackets in marbled leather were styled with thick knit scarves and shearling skirts, altogether creating an aesthetic that was bona fide badass. Altogether the collection offered a distinctly refreshing look forward into the great beyond.
