Is this the beginning of the end, or just a tactical maneuver for embattled Illinois Sen. Roland Burris? Yesterday the scandal-plagued lawmaker withdrew to a series of private meetings after calls for his resignation appeared in two Chicago newspapers. Burris recently admitted that earlier statements he made regarding his relationship with ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich were inaccurate and that he tried to raise money for the impeached executive while lobbying for his Senate seat. Whether Burris' private meetings are for planning his resignation or mapping out a comeback strategy remains unknown, but his communications director, Jim O'Connor, is claiming everything is business as usual for now at least. "We haven't discussed that at all," O'Connor said when asked yesterday if Burris would resign.
