Memphis coach John Calipari may be very close to replacing an ineffectual Billy Gillespie as head coach of Kentucky, SI sources indicate. Whether he opts to stay with Memphis or take over at Kentucky, somebody will have to honor the four remaining years on Calipari’s lucrative contract, which pays him $2.35 million annually. If he does abandon Memphis, he will leave behind the top-rated recruiting class in the country, although his latest recruit, 6-foot-10 DeMarcus Cousins, has declared he would follow the esteemed coach wherever he goes. Calipari is an astonishing 252-68 during his nine years with the Tigers, who were bumped from the sweet 16 by Missouri last week.
