Timothy Rub, director of the Cleveland Museum of Art for the past three years, has been named director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Rub succeeds Anne d'Harnoncourt, who died last year after 26 years in the post, and becomes the 13th director in the museum’s rich 125-year history. During his short stay in Cleveland, Rub oversaw the museum’s first stage of expansion and arrives in Philadelphia at a time when its museum is considering its next phase of development. "I am eager to build on the museum's many strengths as we embark upon a new and very significant chapter in the history of this institution," Rub said in a statement. Meanwhile, the president of the Cleveland Museum said a search for a new director would start soon and expressed confidence that a strong successor will be found.
