Born in 1932, Edward Kennedy was the youngest sibling in his family, and the only brother to survive into old age: His brother Joseph was killed in World War II; John was assassinated in 1963; and Robert was murdered in 1968. His words at Robert’s funeral are among his most famous. When Kennedy married in 1992, he commented on his family’s tragic history, saying, “The people who had been closest to me over the course of my life had disappeared, with that enormous amount of emotion and feeling and love. I thought I probably wouldn't want to go through that kind of experience again.”
