Museums too crowded? You’re now able to see what a Botticelli looks like in the palm of your hand. London’s National Gallery launched an iPhone application this week and 250 of the most famous paintings are available to flick through, zoom, and observe much closer than allowed in any museum. Works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Jan van Eyck, among others, are available, accompanied by audio describing the stories behind the art. "Designed to appeal to art enthusiasts and fans of the gallery, this application is the first of its kind to be released by a major gallery," said the museum in a statement. Brava, London!
