China has reportedly launched an Arabic-language TV channel, China Central Television, to show the Middle East and North Africa what the “real” China is like. But there may not be much reality after all: the channel, which will run 24 hours a day for 300 million Arab-speaking viewers, was launched to promote the government’s views and bring state-controlled media to the rest of the world.
