Hear ye, Hear ye! The CFDA gathered this week for its first town hall meetings—with Diane von Furstenberg at the helm—to get to the heart of the matter of whether fashion shows have become obsolete. Donna Karan’s response? Definitely. The concept of previewing lines that won’t be relevant for months to come is a thing of the past, the group considered, and New York’s Fashion Week needs a makeover. “There is no way when you are in the middle of a tsunami that you can change absolutely everything,” Karan said in a statement with no practical application. “But one thing that we can do and that I would like to do is make New York Fashion Week the most dynamic fashion week in the world.” No word yet on if or how anyone in the business will actually implement any changes, but the Vogue-sponsored Fashion’s Night Out September 10 could jump-start a new outlook on retail shopping. At least that’s the hope.
