The 1975 Broadway musical Man on the Moon, written by John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas, directed by Paul Morrissey, and produced by Andy Warhol, has recently been released as a CD. Warhol recorded the orchestrated musical—which starred Philips, Genevieve Waite, Denny Doherty, and Monique Van Vooren and closed after only five performances—with a portable cassette recorder and the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh converted the cassette tapes into digital files, which were then re-mastered. The CD, which is titled Andy Warhol Presents Man on the Moon, features recordings of the songs by Phillips with a back-up band and five tracks from the original production.
