The last British veteran of World War I has gone out with style: Radiohead has recorded and made available on its Web site a tribute to Harry Patch, who died July 25 at age 111. Having heard Patch in an interview, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke wrote on the band’s Web site that “The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me. It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death.” The track is available for download for £1 on radiohead.com. Proceeds will go to the British Legion, which supports British veterans and their families.
