With 13,000 supporters strong on Facebook and growing, protesters are organizing a boycott of Whole Foods in reaction to an Op-Ed that appeared in The Wall Street Journal by the supermarket chain's co-founder and CEO John Mackey. In the piece, “The Whole Foods Alternative to Obamcare,” Mackey criticized President Obama’s plan for a health-care overhaul, and quoted with Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” Mackey went on to say “The last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits.” Protesters are outraged by what they’re calling Mackey’s “anti-union, anti-health-insurance reform, right-wing activities.” Whole Foods has issued an apology, saying, “John’s intent was to express his personal opinions—not those of Whole Foods Market.”
