New details are unfolding in the controversial case of freed Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi. Earlier this year, Libya reportedly warned British Foreign Office minister Bill Rammell of "catastrophic" diplomatic consequences if the terrorist, who's battling cancer, was left to die in a Scottish jail, according to minutes from an official meeting released Tuesday. The documents also reveal that Rammell told the Libyans that neither Gordon Brown nor David Miliband, secretary of state, wanted him to die in prison, though it was ultimately Scotland's decision whether to release him. While British officials have insisted that no pressure was placed on the Scottish government to release the bomber, new evidence suggests that the U.K. tacitly supported the decision and let pressure build on Scottish ministers.
