Democrats largely oppose the White House plan to expand military operations in the war-torn country. Republicans, who have vociferously opposed Obama's domestic policy, may become allies in the foreign arena. One GOP senator told the Washington Post, "If you do what the commanders recommend, I will be an enthusiastic supporter of the president."
