The Tate will soon make its pictures move—the esteemed London art museum is teaming up with Aardman, the four-time Oscar winning British animation company behind Wallace & Gromit, for their first movie. The museum is enlisting the help of children across the UK to contribute ideas about characters and stories or even drawings and sound effects, which Aardman will then weave into a feature-length film. Though the final product is likely will not be released until late 2011 or early 2012, workshops will be held beginning this summer in museums across the country for the collaborative effort to begin. One well-received trial practicum encouraged its young artistic apprentices to “send us your burps,” said Aardman’s co-founder and chairman, David Sproxton. Organizers hope the project will reach one million young people.
