ESPN plans to launch a 3-D network with a World Cup soccer match on June 11, broadcasting at least 65 events during the first year and creating what it says will be the first network to broadcast entirely in 3-D to the home. Other events to be shown on the channel, which the network has committed to through June 2011, include NBA games, the Summer X Games, and some college basketball and football. In order to watch, viewers will need high-tech—and more expensive—televisions that are capable of broadcasting in 3-D, new set-top boxes, and, of course, special 3-D glasses.
