Another wrench in the gears of President Obama’s plan to close Guantanamo: New data show that as many as one in five former Guantanamo detainees are suspected of or are confirmed to have engaged in terrorist activities since their releases. The 20 percent recidivism rate is an increase over the Pentagon’s last estimate of 14 percent in April. A counterterrorism adviser at Human Rights Watch warns, however, that “The Pentagon’s numbers appear to be both wildly inaccurate and inflated.”
