Though New York's top Democrats are attempting to dissuade Harold Ford Jr. from challenging New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's advisers met with the potential candidate to plan his campaign strategy. Senator Chuck Schumer also met with Ford to try to dissuade him from throwing his hat in the ring. On Thursday, Democratic majority leader Senator Harry Reid reportedly called Mayor Bloomberg to express his concern about Ford's possible bid and inquire as to whether or not the New York City mayor was behind the effort. Though Bloomberg allegedly assured Reid he was not personally involved, two of Bloomberg's top campaign strategists, met with Ford Thursday, offering him a detailed description the city currently and what challenging Gillibrand would entail.
