The Togo national soccer team was attacked by what players called "armed rebels" on Friday while en route to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. Attackers opened fire with AK-47s merely a few minutes after the team bus crossed the border from the Republic of Congo to the Angolan territory of Cabinda. Team striker Thomas Dossevi described the attack, saying "We hid below the seats—we had police protection in front and behind but we were attacked from both sides. As soon as I heard the bullets I went to the floor." The entire team went to the hospital, but only three were injured. One took a bullet in the back and another to the kidneys. The bus driver was the only fatality.
