Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian man accused of attempting to bomb a Detroit-bound flight on Christmas Day, has pled "not guilty" to charges including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, for which he could face up to life in prison. Attorneys for Abdulmutallab reportedly have little choice but to call for mental-health examinations and consider a plea bargain for their client, and one expert called the case a "no-lose trial for the prosecution." Abdulmutallab, who is standing mute for the trial, is not expected to help his own case: "A person who wants to blow himself up in an airplane over Detroit is not looking to have some time off in the big house," said a former Guantanamo Bay terrorism prosecutor.
