Game Change, the story of the 2008 presidential campaign as written by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, is being kept under tight wraps prior to its publication date. But some of the "juiciest revelations" are coming out, including stories about Harry Reid's behind-the-scenes support of Barack Obama—whom Reid said privately had "no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Reid has issued a response, saying, “I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans, for my improper comments,” and Obama has publicly accepted the apology. Also documented are intense fights between John and Elizabeth Edwards, who was thought of as an "abusive, intrusive, paranoid, condescending, crazywoman" by staffers. The journalists write of the “war room within a war room” Hillary Clinton put together to deal with accusations regarding her husband’s “libido.” “The stories about one woman were more concrete, and after some discreet fact-finding, the group concluded that they were true: that Bill was indeed having an affair—and not a frivolous one-night stand but a sustained romantic relationship,” they write, but do not identify the woman.
