What a tangled web Hollywood weaves. After Spider-Man director Sam Raimi decided he couldn’t make the film’s fourth installment with the vision he had in mind, he and the cast, including Tobey Maguire, left the project. Sony Pictures confirmed Monday that the script for Spider-Man 4 will be reworked by screenwriter James Vanderbilt and a new cast and director are planned for a summer 2012 release. According to Sony, the amended story will send Peter Parker back to high school, where he’ll grapple with human and super-human trials and tribulations. Raimi said working on the franchise was “the experience of a lifetime” and is confident the studio and Marvel will do a terrific job. Fans are now wondering if Jake Gyllenhaal, who was in talks to replace Maguire in Spider-Man 2, will swing in to play the coveted role of Peter Parker, or if he's now too old for the spandex suit.
