The first portrait to depict both of Britain’s princes William and Harry was unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery. Donning their military uniforms, England’s young royals are pictured talking to one another at their home at Clarence House, close to Buckingham Palace. Nicky Philipps, the artist behind the portrait, said she captured the brothers’ close relationship in an informal instance, offering onlookers “a behind-the-scenes glance at the human element of royal responsibility.” The National Portrait Gallery commissioned the painting, which will now hang beside other works of Britain’s nobility. The museum’s director says, “It is a delightful image which extends the tradition of royal portraiture.” Above Harry, Philipps detailed a painting of the late Queen Mother, who lived in the Clarence House, while behind William, one can see artwork from her private collection.
