Google's threat to abandon its business in China over allegations of hacking and targeting human-rights activists has caught the business world by surprise. In an Independent profile Sunday, the British paper says that Google-watchers all agree that the search engine's co-founder Sergey Brin is the force behind the move. "He's always had an emotional tug within him, saying 'We shouldn't be making compromises'," said Ken Auletta, the author of a recent book on the Internet company.
