Besides bringing in an array of American treasures, the East Side Settlement House’s annual Winter Antiques Show brought in other staples of popular culture, including Martha Stewart at their gala preview. About 150 guests gathered with open checkbooks as 10 pieces sold within the first half-hour for $135,000. The social-service organization supports local families and community development; profits benefit its South Bronx education program. The show coincides with Americana sales at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Bonhams, which have been doing well with their auctions. A year ago, the Winter Antiques Show changed its definition of antique, allowing objects from before 1960 as opposed to those more than 100 years old.
