Republicans rejected the proposed "purity test" Friday, which would've required GOP candidates to agree with eight out of 10 policy points to receive funding and national support. Instead, the Republican National Committee approved a rule that would urge party leaders to support nominees in favor of the party's platform. Even after the original proposal—written by Indiana committeeman James Bopp—was unanimously shot down, there were heated arguments between opposing sides of the issue. “You’ve got to determine that the candidate supports all the core principles of the Republican Party before you support them,” argued Bopp. Oregon GOP Chairman Bob Tiernan, however, called Bopp's plan "nuts" and interrupted his press briefing several times, to the point where Bopp told Tiernan to, "shut up."
