Evan Lysacek pulled off the upset of the night, by snagging the gold medal and ousting defending champion Evgeni Plushenko. Though the Russian emerged from retirement to try and add a second gold to his collection, Lysacek eked by with a final score of 257.67, 1.31 points ahead of Plushenko. Lyscek is the first American man to win the coveted Olympic gold since Brian Boitano in 1988.
