Private-security contractor Blackwater may be immune from prosecution for crimes committed in Iraq, but it’s not so lucky here: U.S. prosecutors are weighing charges against three former Blackwater officials, including former president Gary Jackson, over allegations that the company illegally stockpiled automatic rifles at its North Carolina headquarters. In 2008, federal agents found 22 weapons, including 17 AK-47s, during a raid, and now officers are investigating whether “Blackwater obtained the official letterhead of a local sheriff to create a false justification for buying the guns,” says the Associated Press. It is illegal for anyone except for local law enforcement to own fully automatic weapons registered after 1986.
