After 24 seasons, At the Movies has been canceled. The show was made famous by Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel in the 1980s, but it has struggled since Siskel’s death and especially since Ebert left the show due to cancer. Recently, film critics A.O. Scott and Michael Phillips have hosted the show, which will have its last episode air August 14. However, in more cheering news, Ebert says that he and his wife “are still going ahead with our plans for a new movie-review program on television.” He promises “a strong Web presence” plus coverage of “indie films, foreign films, documentaries, restored classics, the new Herzog, the new Bahrani, the new Almodovar.”
