Flooded by stories of coverups in the face of sexual abuse, the Catholic Church is finally taking steps to make it easier for victims to speak up. The Roman Catholic Church in Germany has created a hotline to report sexual abuse, run by a bishop specifically to offer victims an outlet. Germany in particular has been hit hard by the abuse scandal, with two-thirds of German dioceses falling under scrutiny and even the pope himself being accused of failing to discipline a priest suspected of abusing children while he was archbishop of Munich. Last week, Pope Benedict XVI, however, promised swift action.
