A leading proponent of apartheid in South Africa, Eugene Terre'Blanche, was hacked to death by two employees during his sleep. Terre'Blanche had proposed war instead of allowing blacks to enter political leadership in South Africa. He spent five years in prison for nearly killing a black man in an attack. He returned to the spotlight last year when he began agitating for an independent Afrikaner state. His murder came during an argument over unpaid wages on his farm. A knife and club were found in Terre'Blanche's bed along with his body.
