A twenty-five foot humpback whale is beached on Long Island but can't be saved. “The actions of its body would indicate it’s in really tough shape,” said one marine expert. “It’s not a candidate to save. It’s a very young animal. It couldn’t survive on its own even if it was healthy. It’s supposed to be with its mother.” Most whales die at sea, not on land, but some beach themselves to prevent drowning. Beached whales are found in the area every ear or two, according to the Associated Press.
