So much for the renewed warmth between the United States and Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced Thursday that the country will suspend all adoptions to U.S. families. The decision comes one week after a Tennessee woman sent her 7-year-old son back to Russia on a plane alone. The incident outraged Russians. A ministry official said a new agreement was needed "to monitor the living conditions of adopted Russian children to ensure that recent tragedies in the United States will not be repeated." Almost two thousand Russian children were adopted in the U.S. last year. It is the third largest source for U.S. adoptions.
