The U.S. Coast guard is searching for 15 missing workers who were sent fleeing to lifeboats after an Tuesday night explosion aboard an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The Associated Press reports that 126 people were on board the platform at the time of the explosion and that although no deaths have been reported, there are some injuries. Coast Guard senior petty officer Mike O'Berry said that authorities hope that everyone got off the rig in life boats, and that helicopters, boats, and a plane are searching for survivors. On Wednesday morning, five fire boats were still quelling flames at the platform.
