As the rough and tumble world of publishing faces dropping ad rates, new media, and the iPad, magazine editors from around the country convened for the 45th annual National Magazine Awards in New York. “Magazines have never been better,” said Sid Holt, Chief Executive of the American Society of Magazine Editors, in a press release. Magazine of the year went to Glamour, while National Geographic took the award for general excellence in the highest subscription category of 2 million plus. New York magazine nabbed two awards – one for general excellence in the 250,000 to 500,000 circulation category, and another for best personal service. Famed Vogue editor and Devil Wears Prada inspiration Anna Wintour was inducted into the ASME Hall of Fame, while Vanity Fair came out with the award for best print photography.
