Meet Brian J. Hogan, a 21-year-old who raised money for orphans in Kenya, worked for a Chinese orphanage while on study-abroad, and gives swimming lessons to children at a church-run community center. But when Apple engineer Gary Powell left his iPhone prototype in a bar, Wired reports, Hogan didn't do the right thing. He asked around at the bar before leaving with the device, but didn't return the phone to the bar owners or make more than a half-hearted effort at contacting Apple before offering several tech sites access to the phone. Hogan's lawyer said that Hogan "regrets his mistake in not doing more to return the phone," but that Gizmodo emphasized to Hogan that "there was nothing wrong in sharing the phone with the tech press." Apple and the police don't agree and are interviewing Hogan and trying to gauge whether a crime was committed. Earlier this week they raided a Gizmodo reporter's home, prompting an outcry from parent company Gawker, who claimed it was a violation of legal protections on the press.
