More natural disasters? Emergency management officials in Tennessee say that floods resulting from two days of heavy rain could be responsible for at least 11 deaths. Parts of the state saw 20 inches of rain, with more projected for Sunday. Along with flooding, the downpours have caused evacuations, dam failures, and road washouts. Over the weekend, more than 600 people were rescued from the deluges in Nashville. On Sunday, Mayor Karl Dean said, "All of our major creeks and the Cumberland River are near flood level, if not at flood level... The ground is entirely saturated, and the rain continues to fall. There's nowhere for the water to go." The flooding has spread over to Kentucky, and, according to Dean, more rain came down in the past 24 hours on the city of Nashville than has ever been recorded.
