You’d think an anti-bestiality law would be a slam dunk to pass, but apparently not in Florida. In spite of vocal complaints from residents about the issue and a major push from Democratic State Senator Nan Rich, a provision making bestiality illegal failed to pass in Florida legislature this week; the state now remains one of several without specific legislation on the matter. The law failed to gain adequate political support from legislators who feared “wasting time addressing a rare crime” in the midst of a jobs crisis, and was added on to an omnibus agriculture bill that failed to pass thanks to controversial provisions regarding gun control.
