A man suspected of being involved in a plot to attack the World Cup soccer tournament in South Africa was arrested by Iraqi security forces Monday. According to a Baghdad security spokesman, the man was a part of the Saudi al Qaeda group, although no evidence or verifications have been offered. “He was planning a terrorist act in South Africa during the World Cup based on plans issued by the central al Qaeda terrorist organization in coordination with Osama bin Laden’s first assistant,” the spokesman said. The tournament is set to take place from June 11 to July 11, and will be the first World Cup hosted by an African country. Officials from South Africa say they have not received any terrorist threats or identified any potential risks to the international teams visiting.
